NEW PATTERN: Caucus Race Socks

Happy New Year!  It’s January and it’s 2017.  How do you feel about that?  Anyone got any resolutions?  I know a LOT of you like to set knitting goals.  Tell me about them in the comments, please.

Are you a sock knitter like me?  Do you want to knit 12 socks this year?

Do you like trying different techniques?

Do you knit toe-up or cuff-down?  Want to try the other method?

Are you a yarn junkie? Do you have a beautiful skein of sock yarn with short bursts of color and want to find a patten to highlight its beauty?

“What I was going to say,” said the Dodo in an offended tone, “was, that the best thing to get us dry would be a Caucus-race.”

“What IS a Caucus-race?” said Alice; not that she wanted much to know, but the Dodo had paused as if it thought that SOMEBODY ought to speak, and no one else seemed inclined to say anything.
“Why,” said the Dodo, “the best way to explain it is to do it.” (And, as you might like to try the thing yourself, some winter day, I will tell you how the Dodo managed it.)

First it marked out a race-course, in a sort of circle, (“the exact shape doesn’t matter,” it said,) and then all the party were placed along the course, here and there. There was no “One, two, three, and away,” but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. However, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out “The race is over!” and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking,

“But who has won?”

These socks use simple seed stitch to create an exciting field of color that is inspired by the inventive imagery in Alice in Wonderland.

When choosing yarn, please select one that is primarily a solid or tonal color with very short sections of color(s). Color sections measuring 1” to 3” (2.5 to 7.5cm) are best.

My Sock Knitting Resolution for 2017

For the last 2 years, I have resolved to knit at least 12 socks in 12 months.

In 2015, I knit 17!

In 2016, I did 20!!

In 2017, I think I will relax a bit and only aim to do 12 socks.  One each month.  Simple.

That way I can focus some more energy on dyeing and designing other things.

Please tell me about your sock-knitting (or other) goals for 2017!

Don’t forget, I dye and sell yarn. See the latest sock blanks and yarns here!
